Issue

Wild animals are increasingly impacted by the activities of people. Loss of habitat, collision with obstacles (cars, buildings), poisoning from pest control or lead and predation by free-roaming domestic cats are all human-related reasons why more and more wild animals are finding their way to rehabilitation centres like the CWRC. Most of the injuries and death to wild animals are preventable. Many of the species we see are ones at risk, threatened or endangered.

Response

The Cobequid Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre provides veterinary medical care and long-term rehabilitation to injured and orphaned wildlife so that they can be returned to the wild. We also strive to educate people about the human-made hazards and impact on wildlife. Through education, we can reduce the human footprint on wildlife and hopefully decrease the number of wild animals that require our help. Special Note: The CWRC lost Dr Helene van Doninck, our founder and mentor, this summer to ovarian cancer. Helene had a real soft spot for porcupines and this design is a tribute to her, complete with her name in the design.
