Issue
Rabbits are the third most popular pet and the third most abandoned ending up at shelter, abandoned on the streets or in parks where they may die of starvation or predation. Sadly, families purchase baby bunnies for Easter, birthdays, Christmas and give them to children as toys. These rabbits often and housed in dangerous outdoor cages and as soon as they are grown or the child loses interest, the dumping begins. It seems the people never intended to keep them. It’s heartbreaking for the rabbit who may find themselves without food water or shelter as they fend for their very lives in “the wild” on the streets, simply abandoned. Good Samaritans often pick up these little lost rabbits and take them to shelters or they call rescues like us.
Response
The Rabbit Haven works to raise awareness about rabbits as wonderful, social indoor companions. Rabbits bring so much joy into our lives. TRH rescues 700+ rabbits each year from the community and shelters. TRH holds special adoption events and individual adoption appointments –our objective is to find every rabbit a loving permanent home. TRH provides medical care, spay neuter services and Vaccine clinics. We also operate a help desk open to full USA 7 days a week. We assist our shelters in the provision of direct rabbit care, placement, socialization and adoption. The Rabbit Haven is a non profit education and adoption organization.
