Issue
Orangutans are a highly endangered species. As a result of human activities including illegal logging, conversion to agricultural lands, mining, settlements and road construction worldwide Orangutan populations that once numbered in the hundreds of thousands are estimated to have diminished to less than 60,000 with approximately 7,300 in Sumatra and the rest in Borneo.
Response
Orangutan Foundation International is dedicated to saving orangutan populations from extinction in the wild, protecting orangutan habitat/tropical rainforests and the rehabilitation and release of wild-born ex-captive orangutans back to the wild. Through research and education OFI is further working to create a positive future for orangutans.
