Now more than ever, animals are being called upon to tend to the therapeutic needs of people across an increasingly broad spectrum including autistic children, hospice patients and soldiers returning from war. As the Pet Partners program has expanded to more than one million visits yearly in every state, we need to strengthen the support available to our teams, evaluators and facilities so that many more can benefit from animal-assisted therapy.
In 2015, Pet Partners will commit new resources to enhance evaluation materials for all species, develop literacy programming, support youth with special needs, create youth education programming and pilot a criminal justice system advocacy effort. This enormous undertaking will dramatically change who, where and how many people will be served.
