Every year up to 20,000 small whales, dolphins and porpoises are slaughtered in “drive hunts”. ‘Fishermen’ in Taiji, Japan herd entire pods of cetaceans into shallow bays where they are inhumanely stabbed and drowned to death in their own blood.
WDC, Whale and Dolphin Conservation is the leading global charity dedicated to the conservation and protection of whales and dolphins. WDC defends these remarkable creatures against the many threats they face, such as the drive hunts in Taiji, Japan, through campaigns, lobbying, advising governments, conservation projects, field research and rescue. WDC’s core belief is that all whales and dolphins have the right to exist as nature intends, not as humans decide, and to swim in clean, noise-free waters unscathed by boats and free from hunting, captivity, entanglement in fishing gear and nets.
